Preble Township Board Meeting Highlights

The following topics were discussed at the regular meeting of the board of supervisors held on Tuesday, January 18, 2011, beginning at 7PM.  Official minutes of this board meeting have not yet been approved.

Township officers attending the meeting were Gerald Peter, David Williams, David Larson and Charles Olson.  Supervisor Brad Kelly did not attend the meeting.  Township road engineer Butch Obieglo also attended the meeting.

Gerald Peter, township president, called the meeting to order and led the discussion.

Topics Discussed

Treasurer's Report

Chuck Olson, treasurer, reported that the township checking account balance at Rushford State Bank was $71,545.76 as of December 31, 2010, after the payment of all December bills.  Olson stated that $37,325.50 in property tax revenue had been received by the township during early December.  Olson stated that $20,570.50 was expended by the township during December.

Outstanding Bills

The township board reviewed bills received by David Larson since the December meeting. The total amount of outstanding bills, excluding current wages, was $5,582.75.  All outstanding bills were approved for payment.

Road Report

Gerald Peter and Butch Obieglo reported that all township roads have been completely plowed following the recent snowfalls, and there have been no reports from township residents of difficulty in traveling on the roads.  All plowing and road maintenance equipment is working adequately.

Year 2011 Budget Review

David Williams led the discussion of the proposed budget for year 2011.  The township board reviewed David Larson's financial statements showing the results of year 2010, and compared that information to the approved budget for year 2010.  Preble Township received $114,315.75 in total revenue and spent $126,813.60 in disbursements during year 2010.  In reviewing the variances from the year 2010 budget, Preble Township received $1,440.75 more in revenue than projected, and spent $7,943.40 less in disbursements than projected.

The township board suggested changes to several line items of the year 2011 budget, and requested that it be presented at the February board meeting for final approval.

Year 2011 Mileage Reimbursement

David Williams reported that the IRS standard mileage reimbursement rate was increased to $.51 for year 2011.  Since Preble Township ties its mileage reimbursement rate to the IRS standard mileage reimbursement rate, the township board approved a change in its mileage reimbursement rate to $.51 for year 2011.

Year 2012 Property Tax Levy

David Williams suggested that the township board should recommend to the township electors in March that the property tax levy for year 2012 be maintained at the same level as year 2011.  The township board approved a recommendation to the township electors that the property tax levy for year 2012 be approved at $100,500.

Camper Lane Maintenance Reimbursement

David Williams reported that Preble Township had not yet received any invoice from Amherst Township for Preble Township's share of the costs of maintaining Camper Lane.  Williams urged David Larson to remind the Amherst Township clerk to send Preble Township an invoice for such maintenance costs through December 31st.
